Discovering Geology...

The Easingwold u3a Discovering Geology group recently held its annual social and review meeting at the Galtres Centre.

The gathering provided a welcome opportunity to meet together, reflect on the past year, and celebrate a wide range of memorable visits during the group’s first year.

And what a year it has been. Highlights included a visit to a vast limestone quarry at Pateley Bridge - so large it truly takes your breath away - discovering lava remnants that once formed a curtain of basalt stretching from a volcano on the Isle of Mull all the way to Great Ayton and beyond, and searching for (and successfully finding!) ammonites and even pieces of Jet at Runswick Bay.
